About Us

How Private Touring Works

  • I’d learned so much from travelling to familiar places, that I figured I’d learn twice as much by going to a place I knew nothing about.

 Asia Unbound FAQs

  • Asia Unbound is part of The Unbound Travel Group, an Australian-based company owned by Lincoln Harris. Lincoln began his tourism journey in 2007 with India Unbound and has since expanded to create tailor-made travel across Asia. We don’t sell pre-packaged tours - every trip is crafted from scratch around your interests, budget and style. Whether it’s exploring ancient temples in Cambodia, trekking through the Himalayas, or indulging in Japanese cuisine, we design itineraries that balance must-see highlights with authentic local encounters. Our philosophy is simple: travel should be personal, seamless and rewarding.

  • A private tour with Asia Unbound is designed entirely around you. You decide where you want to go, how long you wish to travel, and the type of accommodation you prefer, and we take care of the rest. Our team creates a detailed itinerary that reflects your interests, balancing iconic sights with local experiences that most travellers would miss. Every arrangement is handled for you, including airport transfers, domestic flights, guided touring, tickets and dining recommendations.

You travel with a private driver and expert local guides who bring destinations to life with knowledge, stories and personal connections. Unlike group tours, there is no rigid schedule or rushing to keep up, as the pace is set to suit you. If you wish to skip a museum for a market visit, spend longer at a favourite spot, or slow down with a rest day, your guide and our team will adapt plans with ease.

This flexibility is combined with the reassurance of 24/7 support. Our local partners are always on hand, and our head office team monitors your trip, ready to assist with changes, questions or unexpected events. The result is a seamless, stress-free journey that is not only efficient and comfortable but also uniquely yours.

  • We design journeys in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. Some travellers focus on one country, while others combine two or more for a broader journey. Our team and partners live and work across Asia, so every recommendation is based on local expertise and first-hand knowledge.

  • Absolutely! Multi-country journeys are one of our specialties. Our guests often combine Vietnam and Cambodia, or Japan and South Korea, while others enjoy longer explorations such as India and Bhutan or Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. We manage every detail, from regional flights and airport transfers to visas and cross-border logistics. You enjoy the variety of experiences without the stress of organising connections yourself.

  • Accommodation is an important part of the journey. We work with a wide range of properties, from boutique heritage hotels and five-star resorts to eco-lodges and unique stays such as ryokans in Japan, tea estates in Sri Lanka or jungle retreats in Borneo. Each property is selected to suit your comfort level and travel style, ensuring your stays are as memorable as the destinations themselves. Unlike package tours, we’re transparent about what you can expect from your hotels. There’s no secrecy surrounding the location, quality and inclusions, and no accommodation is booked without your explicit approval.

  • Asia is one of the most welcoming and safe regions for travellers. We only work with licensed guides and trusted drivers, and our partners are carefully chosen for professionalism and reliability. Our team monitors local conditions and provides round-the-clock support so you can travel with confidence. You also benefit from the insight of people who live in the region and understand the culture, which makes travel smoother and more rewarding.

  • Yes. Many of our guests are families, and we know how to balance cultural discovery with activities that children enjoy - especially since we often travel to Asia with our own families. This includes travel with younger children, teenagers, and multi generation families who have varying levels of mobility.

You might cycle through rice fields, spot wildlife on safari, learn to cook local dishes, or relax at a family-friendly beach resort. Transport and accommodation are planned with families in mind, and itineraries are paced so that every generation enjoys the experience.

  • Booking with Asia Unbound is simple. You begin by sharing your ideas, dream destinations, or available dates, usually via email or one of our contact forms.

From there, we will often give you a call to learn more about you and what your idea of the perfect holiday in Asia sounds like. It doesn’t quite put a face to the name, but we find that in the digital age, it’s nice to talk to a real person without having to watch the clock.

Next, we prepare a draft itinerary and then refine it with you, making as many changes as needed until it feels right. A deposit secures your booking and we then confirm all arrangements. Before you travel you will receive a final itinerary that includes all bookings, contacts and travel notes.

  • Support is available every step of the way. From private transfers and guided touring to last-minute adjustments, our local partners are on the ground and ready to assist. Our head office team is also available 24/7 to help with changes, emergencies or even small requests like restaurant recommendations. You can travel knowing that someone is always there to support you, without having to spend hours on hold with a call centre.

  • Visa requirements differ depending on your nationality and destination. Some countries such as Japan and Thailand allow visa-free entry for many travellers, while others such as India, Vietnam and Cambodia require an e-visa. We provide clear guidance during planning, assist with applications where possible, and update you on any changes before you travel. For the most up to date information, visit Smart Traveller.

  • Asia’s climate varies widely, so the best time depends on the countries you wish to visit. South East Asia is most popular between November and March when the weather is cooler and dry. Japan is especially beautiful in spring with cherry blossoms and in autumn with colourful foliage, but keep in mind that this is often when everyone else wants to visit too. In contrast, South Asia is generally best from October to March. Our team will recommend the ideal timing for your chosen destinations, including advice on how to avoid peak crowds.

  • We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical care, cancellations and lost luggage. Depending on your itinerary, some vaccinations may be recommended. We will provide up-to-date health information for each country and practical advice, such as bringing mosquito repellent in tropical regions, so you are well prepared.

  • Costs vary depending on destinations, travel dates, accommodation style and trip length. As a guide, our private journeys are designed for travellers who value comfort, flexibility and a high level of service. Each proposal is transparent, with a clear breakdown of inclusions and no hidden costs. We believe in providing value through thoughtful design and quality arrangements.

  • We accept secure payment by credit card or bank transfer. A deposit confirms your booking, with the balance due before departure. Payment terms and conditions of travel are always outlined in your proposal. We can also provide advice on managing money while in Asia, including how to balance the use of cards and local cash for daily expenses.

  • As an Australia based small business, we like to keep it simple: excellent customer service paired with bucket-list travel experiences. We focus on private, tailor-made journeys that put you at the centre. Unlike large group tours, there are no fixed schedules or set departures. Our knowledge is based on years of experience and strong partnerships throughout Asia. We also prioritise responsible and ethical travel. That means no animal rides, no orphanage visits and no forced shopping stops. Instead, we create journeys that support local communities, respect cultural traditions and deliver authentic encounters.
